Assembly Committees Reach a Milestone in Phoenix

Continuing our series on progress made by the standards development committees in Phoenix, the following report from Jack Crawford, IPC director of certification, highlights work on J-STD-001 and IPC-A-610.

The 5-22a J-STD-001 Task Group (J-STD-001, Requirements for Soldered Electrical & Electronic Assemblies) and the 7-31b IPC-A-610 Task Group (IPC-A-610, Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies) worked through all the open comments and action items to bring resolution to more than 750 comments submitted against both documents. Both documents were elevated to Proposed Standard for Ballot. (Note – both documents are now out for ballot. Votes are due by March 1)

The 5-22as Task Group continued work on J-STD-001ES, Space Applications Electronic Hardware Addendum of J-STD-001E, Requirements for Soldered Electrical and Electronic Assemblies. The goal is to have this addendum ready for release at the same time as the new J-STD-001E revision is published.

Because of progress on J-STD-001E and IPC-A-610E, the 5-22bt J-STD-001 Technical Training Task Group and the 7-31bt IPC-A-610 Technical Training Task Group meetings focused on development of constructive ideas to be considered for training program updates.
