Overheard at the TAEC meeting – box build to be standardized?

After many years of discussion, will activity start on an IPC box build standard? In the past, the lack of volunteers has hampered the effort. Apparently, new interest has been expressed in the assembly and joining committee. Doug Pauls, IPC general chair for 5-30 cleaning and coating, raised the issue that many new materials are used for enclosures, and asked how his committee should be involved. The TAEC (technical activities executive committee) agreed to house the effort with Assembly &  Joining and bring in other committees as needed. IPC receives regular inquiries on this topic. Hopefully this new effort can get underway. New IPC Assembly Technology Director Kevin Schuld is already calling it “his baby.” Sounds promising. For more info, contact KevinSchuld@ipc.org.
